Default Can I paint chrome?

I am not sure of the process, but can I paint my front and rear chrome bumper and sidesteps? I was thinking powder coating, but i dont know that i could afford to have it done at a shop and i don't have an oven big enough.

hey i painted my chrome bumpers not to long ago. all i did was take a scotch brite pad and lightly buff up the chrome to give the paint something to stick to. then used some primer, a few coats of paint and some clear coat. It was less then 30$ to do everything. Heres a picture of what i did. as you can see I also painted the rockers and rims black looks 100 times better.

So it is possible to paint the damn chrome huh.. one of the guys that i know at my dealership keeps saying that its impossible to paint the chrome bumpers.. or anything chrome for that matter.. because i been wanting the sport look.. just sucks that the inferno red is more costly then other colors.. damn 3 tone paints, its not like i can just go and pick paint up from meijer for this color, has to be professionally done. what would you guys prefer.. dealership to paint parts with that color or go to a paint place and have them match it?

Use an etch primer.
This chemically bites down into the first few layers of the metal and bonds with the molecules there.
This provides the best "key" for the next primer and paint to adhere to.
Do this, and you will not get any flaking paint coming away from the chrome.
I believe you must still "rough up" the chrome before etching though.
Hope this helps?
Al.

Get your paint code and go to a paint shop and have em mix it. Even if you got the factory paint, it will not match 100%. If the paint shop is good they can add a lil something to match it up even better. My paint guy does that VERY well. Good luck.

ya i did it 3 months ago same method , primer , black , and (4) coats of gloss clearcoat to give it a lil shine , but also protect that crap out of it from chipping! the only thing that sucks is now i have to be careful at the wash, careful not get to close with the hose , other than that the project worked great !
i went to get a quote to powdercoat and its was $350 plus i had to wait a fricken week!
