Default Emissions Light After Washing

New to the forum. I got a question I am hoping you can answer. I have an 06 Ram 1500 5.7L SLT 4x4 and everytime I wash it the emissions light comes on. I thought it may be the gas cap so I purchased one a month ago and the light stayed off until I washed the truck again. The light first came on after a hard rain. It was sitting in the drive way. If it doesnt rain or I dont wash it the light stays off. Water doesnt seem to be getting in the engine compartment so i thought it had something to do with the gas cap, but I am at a lose now. Any thoughts?

Also what is the difference between the Vin code 2 and the Vin code D? Thanks

RJ

Hey man Thats a new one on me...emissions light?? I have never noticed one.. The only thing I could say to try is try wetting specific parts of your truck to see if you can get the light to come on. Maybe you can narrow it down like that. I don't know but I'm sure some body else will chime in with some better advice.

Is it the check engine light, or an actual emissions light?

It is the actual emissions light. I thought it may be the check engine but I checked the owners manual and sure enough it is the emissions light. I thought it might be something to do with the gas cap because the first time it came on the truck was in the drive way, partly under the carport and it rained. The water shed off the carport right over the gas cap and the light came on. But I changed it so I think it may be something else.

check your evaporator system, look for a broken hose clamp or a cracked hose. Possibly water is getting in causing the code. Just a guess, but they use the cheapest clamps and hoses. I posted a diagram of the entire evap system in the FAQ section. Do a search, I'm sure it'll pop right up...

I can't really help with the emissions light, although I never knew that there was an emissions light. I assumed that any problem with the emissions would just set off the check engine light. But as far as the vin codes, 2 is the MDS Hemi and D is the non-MDS Hemi.

I found the evap diagram and have started wetting sections of the truck to see if I can get it do it. I figure I will only wet one area every day and that way I can isolate the problem.

I know exactly what the problem is. It is the Evap system. There's a Evap sensor that rests above the gas tak and is right between the bed and body of the truck. My silverado had to have the Evap sensor replaced twice because water would get between the back winow and the bed and get it all wet. i would imagine the Ram is set-up the same way. It actually may be a ground connector and not the unit it6self. My ground broke on my Silverado the 2nd time i replaced the unit. try that.

good headwork Hammer..lol
