inefficient tranny
I stated that the Ram gets 240-270rwhp in the "I hate mustang" thread. I was comparing the mustangs puny hp to the Rams.
Anyways, there are a few diff style Dyno machines. 2 main one's out in shops... Dyno Jet(inertia) and Mustang Dyno(load-bearing)
Inertia type dyno machines give high reading " false" numbers. That is why i stated 270.
Mustang or Load bearing Dyno's tend to be lower output or "real" numbers. That would be the lower hp of 240. Generally a Mustang Dyno is about 5-8% lower hp output than a DynoJet. Some can read high, some can read extra low. it all depends on how it is calibrated when set-up, but never will you get a Mustang Dyno reading that is higher than a Dynojet reading.
Ford utilizes the same concept in Torque converters and it eats up some HP. I found an article regarding higher stalls and Dyno outputs. Here ya go:

Here's one with just a flowmaster muffler...279rwhp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIj3Oa4eDC8
Speaking of mustang dyno...here's a ram that put down 245rwhp on a mustang dyno. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ds4sRcJELnU Here's the dyno from the link on youtube http://www.big3racing.net/chassis_dyno I'm thinking those half dozen you saw were stang dynos...stang dynos are pre-loaded so you get lower numbers.
i would say it's impossible that the Ram has 30% drivetrain loss. I just don't believe that. Most rwd cars are losing anywhere from 12-16% w/manuals and 16-20% w/auto's.
The Ram is rated at 345 from the factory. In which the factory rates on a DynoJet over inflated scale generally speaking. Some cars are underrated. Now the Dynojet number being 270ish would make the Ram have a 22% drivetrain loss resulting in a 75hp loss through the drivetrain BASED on manufacturer numbers. The Ram doesn't lose over 100rwhp. It's just an OVERRATED engine and it should be rated at a realistic 320hp at the flywheel and not 345.

I repeat my previous question, Does anyone have a Dyno results with a TC replaced.
