hello all, this is my first post, just bought my first dodge 3 days ago (07 ram 1500 quad cab) and i'm in love with it!!! this is actually my first truck too. ive always been a sports & luxury sedan person with camaros, corvettes, CTSs, and lincoln LSs. Guess this is also my first dodge now that i think about it.

anyhow, i hate to start off my membership here with questions, but i couldnt find exactly what i was looking for already posted, so here goes:

I'm ready ditch the stock wheels & tires for something better. At the moment I'm looking at 24" rims. My question is how big can i go with the tires WITHOUT making modifications to the suspension? I dont want to lift or lower my truck as i think its the perfect height already. im sure adding a larger overall wheel diameter will increase the height slightly, and that's fine. i just dont want to start playing with the factory suspension components. my problem is that i dont really like the "rubber band" tires and want my truck to have beefier rubber for a smoother ride and more protection for the rims if i hit a pothole too hard one day. after all, it is a truck, and i still want to drive it like one. also, how wide can i go? the 24" rims i like are 10" wide. so there it is, i want big wheels with the fattest tires possible without adjusting the suspension or rubbing the inside fenders.

has anyone done this with 24s already? pictures would be great but it seems all i can find online are either slammed rams, or lifted rams. i just want the sportier stance of the SRT-10, but a bit bigger.

24" rims = rubber band tires. I have 22" x 10" rims on my 4x4 with 305/45/22 tires. They are 33" tall the same as the stock 20's. I also have to run 1/4" spacers so they dont rub on the upper A arm. Is yours a 2wd or 4wd?

 

mine is a 2WD. i dont really have a need for the 4x4, id just never use it. i like the SRT-10 wheels on your truck (the one shown in your signature). just trying to fill the fender gaps a lil more. SRT-10 wheels are 22" stock right? id like to keep the same thickness of the tire that you have in that photo, just with a slightly larger wheel to fill the space. i really dont want to resort to lifting though if i can help it. thats my dilemma

 

here's a pic of an srt-10 more from the side. seems there'd be room in the wells for an extra 2" (keeping the tire thickness the same). maybe only a width of 9-9.5" in the front for turning clearance, but 10" in the rear? the stock thickness of the srt-10 is as thin as i'd ever want to go. any thoughts? anyone tuck 24s on a stock height ram? i'll go with 22s if this just can't be done. but would be happier with a little less space in the wells...

Not really. if you look at guys with the stock 20's at 33" tall, the fenders have the exact curve of the tires meaning the 33's fit the wells nicely. Check out the pictures of guys running 35's on 4x4 suspension and it looks too crowded. Way too crowded for a 2wd.
2" is a big diff.
I would reccomend picking up a set of SRT wheels and going wider a size or 2 and keep the 33" height overall. Otherwise you will rub and it will look too crammed in there.

NOOOOOOO!!!!!! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!?!?! Anything bigger then 20 is just silly looking... Granted the 22"s on the SRT-10s look cool, they're too big... I shake my head senhor... but its your whip so you have fun with it.

 

thanks for all the replies & suggestions guys. you've given me alot to think about. i'm about a week or so away from getting my baby her new shoes. but right now i'm leaning towards either 20s with thicker rubber than the SRT but keeping the same 33" overall diameter (red ram below), or going with 22s on 35s with a mild 2" lift. i found this truck earlier during my research (black ram below) and i love how tough it looks. stands out from stock rams, but without ridiculously changing the perfect stock look. just not sure if i want to get into playing with the stock setup by lifting it. i'll post pics of my truck as soon as i get her shoes on!
