O2 Sensor Questions
My name is Ron, I am new here and need some help from you guys. If this topic has been covered I appologize in advance.
I bought a 2005 Dodge Ram Daytona last December and I have had it for about 4K miles, it currently has 31k miles on it. Since purchasing the truck the Check Engine light has come on 4 times, each time with the O2 sensor codes. The dealership has replaced both O2 sensors and reflashed the computer (per a Dodge TVA) and the problem just came back again.
Can you guys help me with things I can have the dealership check out?
Here is a list I came up with:
Bad EGR Valve
Bad plugs or wires
Dirty Injectors
Check to see if the truck is running lean or rich.

I had been told by the dealership they were O2 sensor codes. I just check the FAQs and it explained how to get the codes from the odometer so I am going outside in a minute to get them.
if you don't hit all the way to RUN every time (just shy of starting) it won't work. You can also hit almost ANY auto parts chain store, they'll hook up a reader and pull the codes for you for free.

The code is a P0420, I guess the catalytic converter is bad. I am going to call the dealership in the morning and light them up. They have been playing games with me and those games stop tomorrow morning.

Prior to the reflash, you would have gotten a P0420 & P0430, this would have indicated a malfunctioning indicator lamp, which TSB 18-016-07 covers. They correctly replaced both front (pre-cat) sensors and re-flashed the PCM.
By only having a P0420 code this time, it indicates merely that the drivers side, front (pre-cat) sensor has failed.
They will probably only replace the sensor, and it may just be bad luck, and it could possibly fix you for good.
There is also a possibility of an exhaust leak on the drivers side, at the manifold. Check for broken bolts. Not REAL likely, but possible.
Make sure it's documented well, however, because if it repeats, I'd be looking at the PCM itself, and that is NOT a cheap part...

It would be the downstream (after the cat) sensor on the driver's side, also referred to as, Sensor 1/2...
