no heat shield.its not really needed due to the fact that when youre driving air is coming through the entire engine compartment.the theory behind the shield would be to create a ram/cold air effect,but since the shield doesnt create a seal with a hood it makes no difference whether you have it or not.the ambient engine compartment heat wont affect the overall purpose.

the filter:
k&n had the patent for a rechargable filter.(cotton blend/paper ****)
they created the filter style. when the time limit ran out for the patent any company with the ability to make filters copied their product.

my intake is just as good as any intake out there.compare my intake with other brands and notice that the tube is bent the same way and the filters are all the same material.i clean my filter about every 2-3 oil changes with a k&n cleaner/recharger kit.no problems .

personally i think its not worth spending the extra money for a name.

 

If you think you can't see a performance difference between the underhood and outside air due to the temps., you need to take another look at it. Air coming into the engine compartment is hotter than the outside air thanks to the heat tranfer from the radiator and heat coming from the engine itself. Underhood temps are always hotter than outside temps. during normal operating conditions.

Silver Eagle. Those are some real cool temperatures. Obviously the louvered hood makes a huge difference, especially if the readings were taken when you were moving.

 

I'm going to be getting the cold air intake that we've found for $70.00. Its a K&N fliter polished pipe.

 

there's a new intake kit out that when its installed;in conjunction with a srt-10 type hood(functional hood scoop) will create true ram air induction.i cant find the site where i saw it but ill keep everyone informed.maybe if you wait and save about 800$ you can have both.


i stand by my $85.00 intake.

ON some cars the hood does the sealing when it's closed other's don't ,But really guy's, where's the cold air coming from. maybe in the winter,but not in the summer. The filter is still under the hood. Maybe if the air box were deeper we could put some cold packs in it to cool the air put this has already been tried. I used to work in gasoline developing before retiring, you won't believe the things we tried to make gasoline do a better job and last longer.

 

I looked up procarparts.com and noted that they do not show a filter for the (2003) Hemi. K&N does. Anyone know whether or not the same filter will work. procarparts also had a 5.9L filter. ??

I took a couple pictures of the intake that I have on my truck, I paid $35 for the aluminum tube and filter element on eBay, $10 for the metal flexible tubing, $5 for the 90 degree a/c bend at Lowe's and installed it myself within 30 minutes... hey its the easiest way to get the same effect as ram air without having to buy a hood or pay big bucks!

Bet that will make you feel like getting ripped off!

Considering where I go and intend to go, I would need to locate my intake at a slightly higher position - like maybe out the side and up in the air like a snorkel (kidding).
