Hello Everyone, If someone could help me answer this question, I'd appreciate it.

I've found that the back up lights on my 03 Ram 1500 4x4 Quad Cab Hemi are rather dim and do not provide much light for backing up, so I purchased some lights that I am going to install and mount to the rear bumper to give me more light. I plan on splicing the positive into the current back up light positive so that when i put my truck in reverse the lights come one. I unscrewed the brake/signal/back up light housing to find several wires going to the light housing that contains the 3 lights.

So i was wondering if anyone knows which wire is the positive for the back up light so i can splice into it.

lol i just posted this same thing on another thread....I did the same thing,there are 2 wires that look exactly the same.I beleive they are white with either a green or a blue stripe.One of thoose is the power to the tail lights and one of them is the power lead for the back-up lights.you need to get a light tester and stick the probe part in each of the wires themselves while the back-up lights are on.that would be your power wire.....hope this helps

 

I wouldnt do it that way. Eventually you can burn up your switch, or wires. It will draw much more power than it was designed for. What I did was hook my lights together, and run them into the engine compartment. I then wired them through a relay and a 3 way switch. The switch is wired so it can be on when the rev lights are on, off, or on off battery power. I would personally recommend it this way, but to each their own, Good luck

 

Always use a relay, and fuse it as well as the lights themselves. Way cheaper than a wire harness replacement.

 

I would run on a separate relay too. Sounds like I found something to hook my dummy switch up too.

This way your truck doesnt have to be in reverse to use em. But sounds like this is how you want to do it, so I cant help you there.

 

relay for sure. $10 isn't worth blowin something or setting something on fire

 

That's how mine are wired. Recon back up lights. And the switch can come in handy as an anti-tailgater device.

 

i thought thats what brake lights and low gears were for?
