Yes they're allowed and no it won't be louder...that's been my experience anyway. The thing with cats in this state is the stockers have to be pretty much trash in order to put new ones on...legally and by a shop that is.

Oh and your stockers are covered for 8 years or 80k miles.....if you're throwing a code you can get them replaced for free.

o well my problem is that my exhaust aint loud for sh*t and i hate it. i have this nice big truck and u can barely hear. im still tryin 2 fully understand y my exhaust is so wimpy. i was thinkn mayb its my cats? my friend keeps telln me to cut em out but i dont wana have to go thru the hassle when it comes to gettin it smogged. ive had 2 mufflers welded on me truck and they sound the same. im going to have cutouts but i want to have a nice soundin truck all the time and when i want to be reallly loud and obnoxious flip the cut outs open! i have my stock exhaust still in place except for a flowmaster muffler welded underneath my bed with a turndown right after the muffler. i saw two youtube videos of good sounding exhausts id like but i have a feeling theres more to making your truck loud than just a muffler..... any suggestions?

Default magnaflow

I have stock cats on my 2005 hemi with a magnaflow muffler with twin tail pipes that exit out the back on either side of the license plate and i can tell you that my neighbors know when im leaving. They sound fantastic and its cheaper than replacing the cats.

Did you leave the resonator/s on when you put your flowmaster on? You didn't say which model FM you have but they're usually pretty loud so a resonator being left on is my best guess.

Maybe you need to try a different brand of muffler. The AT3030 sounds louder to me than the flowmaster 40 series. Also, I would not remove the cats. I am not sure what the law is around there but around here you get caught with no cats and you get impounded.

You can go to aeroexhaust.com to find out about the at3030. I think it will give you the sound you are looking for.
