Are there any vehicles that come from the factory with HIDs in a non-projector housing? Since this topic has come up I have been more aware of the lights on other vehicles and thought I saw a GMC Yukon with HIDs but not projectors. I could be wrong and they may have just been really bright lights but they looked like HIDs. I am certain that they were not projector housings.

No factory vehcile comes equipt with HID's in standard housings. They don't even come in projector housings. They come in a projector assembly that is incased in the headlight housing.
Here's a pic of what comes stock on HID cars ----> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/infin...spagenameZWDVW
Those are REAL projector's that peple do "retro-fit's" with. Most HID lights look like regular housings because they are encased in them. You must get close to see if they have a round bubble for the projector face in order to tell.
many high end cars have them as well as some middle of the line cars as well. GMC Yukon's don't have them stock. The Denali's may but not the standard Yukons.
Here's a Nissan Murano headlight that has HID's stock from the factory. This is what it looks like http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-03-04-05-06-07-MURANO-RIGHT-XENON-HID-headlight-OEM_W0QQitemZ220388690269QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors _Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item220388690269 &_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A10|39%3A1|24 0%3A1318

There are guys who have retro-fitted projectors into the Dodge OEM housings. Even if halogens are aimed to high they can be blinding. I dont care what type of light you may flashed them with on your truck or car but flashing someone with bright lights in a dark environment only causes the pupils to restrict to block light and we all know it takes a few secs for our eyes to readjust to see in the dark.

I know it is instinct to flash other people. I also know that here is GA you cannot have any light in a blue color, even ground effects like StreetGlow.

I must have been mistaken about the truck I saw. The lights definitely were not projectors. They must have just been really bright halogens.

I wish everyone read every post before posting a new one

Last model navigator/escalade as well as the g35 and 350z(late model) have hid lights in regular housing...they now have projectors (of course g37 replaced g35 coupe)

This is tough if your not handy or mechanically inclined. They must be mounted correctly so the self adjust feature doesn't run out of adjustability. Some don't even have adjustability so it's even more critial. However, this will get you the best results for your money hands down.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal everywhere to flash highbeams at oncoming traffic regardless of what the issue is. I remember my cousin flashed a car to warn about a speed trap and it happened to be a Sheriff. He got a ticket.

I have to give you credit Weedahoe, you are one persistant itch...lmao Not many people are as persistant as I am. Also, I see you noticed my sig...lol I checked out yours! HID's undeniably blow Halogens out of the water. They make them seem so 19th Century, well I suppose they would be 20th Century as we are in the 21st right now....lol
That is what makes it so difficult for people to do things properly, because the kits are so cheap now and most guys truley and honestly have no idea about the differences and what should or shouldn't be done.

Dirty, I did notice your Sig and so I thought I would play with you.

We are the same type people as we stand by what we believe. However, the overall concern here is safety. I completely understand youre arguement and points. Im not here to debate legalities of aftermarket installed HIDs in non-OEM equiped vehicles. I just dont know and I have too much going no right now to goo deep-diving off in law books. I do agree that as the kits becoem more cheap, they become more bought and used and if NOT used correctly can be blinding or dangerous. I think we will both agree up to that point. After that point comes to how you use them and install them. I dont think you and I need to go there.

I have thought about switching to HIDs, but as it stands when I tow my camper at night I get people flashing with their hi-beams. I have the factory bulbs, but I guess that with just the weight of the camper it has changed the way the trucks sits enough for it to shine right into people's eyes. What is the best way to set something up so that I can shine my lights on a wall or something to align them a little lower?

Airbags would be a better solution to your situation than adjusting you headlights. You'd find yourself adjusting the lights every time you put your camper on or take it off. Airbags are only $200-$300 and would save a lot of hassle. Do you use a weight distributing hitch? That will help quite a bit also.

I actually got pulled over in a small town in New Mexico when I was towing my trailer because the cop said I failed to dim my high beams. I didn't have my high beams on but the truck was sitting low in the back because of the trailer's tongue weight. I know the cop only stopped me because I was in a small town in New Mexico with Alaska plate on my trailer and Arizona plate on my truck at 10pm. I don't want to accuse the cop of profiling but I have to call a spade a spade.

I am going to guess what I saw was an Escalade with non-projector HIDs. Would make sense since my brain recognized it as a Yukon from just a quick glance at the truck. I concentrated more on the headlights.
