extra muffler on 04 hemi
In the passenger's side rear wheel well, you can see what looks like an extra muffler before the exaust pipe exits the bed of the truck. The salesman who sold me the car told me that Dodge was forced to add those in the '04 model because of noise (possibly a california law?).
My question is, is there any truth to it? Also, can I have it removd? I don't want to get new exaust pipes, just get rid of this extra muffler, especially if it's going to add a little rumble

I just read up on "resonators" and apparently it is used to quiet the noise. I'd definitely like to remove it. Anyone know how much I should expect to pay to have it removed from the pipe? Will they have to 'fill in" the space where the resonator's at with more pipe or can they just cut it out? I wonder if this is somthing I can do myself. I'm pretty technically inclined but havent ever messed with an exaust system before.
Thanks for the help/suggestions/pointers.

You can probably have it removed and the pipe welded back for $20. I removed mine and it made it increased the sound a little bit, but nothing like a performance muffler. It probably doesn't hurt performance to have it on there since it's straight through. They will just use a straight piece of pipe to take up the space left behind.

I was thinking about dueling out my '04 HEMI since it has 2 cats, but figured that it wont make enough difference since the computer limits damn near eveything we try to do to make the thing perform... kinda pisses me off really that Dodge is so limiting on the performance end of the newer trucks over what could be done to the older ones. I had a 1996 Dodge Ram that I could have bought all kinds of mods for, but the only thing MOPAR offers for my current ride is headers and a cat back exhaust. I mean DAMN, I cant even power break my truck without thowing a code that lets the service department know I did so, total BS if you ask me!
