Default Newbie here with a few questions....

Hey guys, Im looking at getting a 3rd gen Ram 1500QC soon and was curious if there are any major problems with these trucks, or anything that I should be leary of when choosing my truck.

Nothing jumps out at me. I have a 2007 quad cab 4x4 that has never gone to the shop for anything other than stupidity caused problems. (The installers fried my instrument cluster when they installed my remote start.) I have 24,000 miles with no problems. I've towed a 7000 pound trailer from Phoenix to Denver with no problems.

Thanks for the replies. I have looked at an 04', and am going to look at an 05' Hemi, and the truck will have around 50K-60K more than likely. How many miles are the Rams good for on average (I know there are always going to be a few lemons), Engines and trannys hold up well?

Well, I have an 04 with about 65K and it is still running strong with no issues (promptly knocks on wood)

There is a minor issue with many of these trucks. Many of the power steering hoses have crappy clamps on them, causing a slow leak. It costs like $2 and about 15 minutes to fix, as long as you know how to use a screwdriver..lol

If your looking at the newer Hemi trucks I think you should be fine. The two 3rd generation dodge trucks I have had have had these problems. The first was an 2002 regular cab and the Steering mechanism(for lack of proper terminology) went bad at about 80K cost about 700 bucks. The second is the one I am driving now and it is a 2002 as well but it is a QC and has the 5.9. When I bought the truck the Tranny was blown. Common problem for the 5.9 trucks. I did not mind buying it because it was dirt cheap and I new what I was buying. Cost me $1800 for a complete rebuild and I mean complete and it came with a three year 75k mile warranty. Other than that just regular main. Just make sure you know what you are buying and buy from a reputable dealer or Private sale. Private sale can tend to rip you off less because you generally know where they live. Goodluck in your search and don't be afraid to go with the 4.7 I think around 07 or 08 they upped the hp to over 300 hp only 45 away from the Hemi.
