Default Do I need a tuner?

I have an '08 Ram 2500 4x4 long bed and bought it mostly for hauling a camper, boat & snomachine trailer. What would a tuner do for my truck? I figure I'll be running mostly in tow/haul mode and getting 8 mpg. Would it increase mpg? Horsepower? No idea. First new vehicle I've ever bought.

yes you would greatly benifit with a superchips tunner . i have one and tow a 12ft trailer with atvs all the time and i noticed a great improvment while towing. also with the SC you can adjust your shift points to accomidate . now with the SC you can also use the performance tune when not towing . i run the towing tune all the time it makes it feel like you have bigger gears and to boot i gained some MPG'S

;i agree.. tuner tuner tuner should be one the first mods ..i think on a bone stock engine it adds 25 hp and you can def help towing! i currently have superchips and its great and probably the way you should def. go...but im thinking of going with custom tuning from sct to take advantage of mods

I have a Diablo Sport and the tuner adjusts shift patterns as well as disable the useless MDS. I use the 91octane tune w/mds disabled and get between 10-11mpg towing 5,000lbs on a 12' tandem axle trailer. I use Tow/haul when towing as well. I'll get 11-13city/14-17highway with that tune and a bit more throttle response. Diablo Sport Predator U7137.
It may be easier to buy a Superchips because there's no hassle in updating the software. Diablo has been working on the Dodge's for some time now and have just released the latest and greatest tune for the Hemi Rams. You would have to update the software even on a brand new unit. It's not hard. Update via internet. i paid $325 plus usb cables for updates. Came to $360 shipped. SC's tuner is cheaper i think???

Diablo has true trans adjustability for partial throttle shifts. SC only has WOT shift adjust.

I hope I'm not stepping on this thread too bad, but I am thinking about some mods myself. What are the negative impacts of a tuner? Engine damage? Void warranty? Anything?

Good question...

How/where does the turner get plugged in at? Easy to do, or do you need a pro? Does it void any part of the warranty?

After doing a little research, a tuner may be necessary for me since I want to put bigger tires on and make corrections for the speedo and tranny shifting.

How do I know which one to choose? I found them (superchips) for $265-430. Looks like they plug into the computer terminal inside the truck possibly. Since some (on ebay) come with a two year powertrain warranty, can I assume it may void the factory warranty on something?
