Default Stock Chrome Rims Painted??

Hey guys,

Well after next week I will have school vacation and I want to paint my stock chrome rims black. Is it the same process as the alloys? I've seen the trucks with the stock alloys painted and they look awesome. Also, what products do I need. All I know is this... Sand Paper, Primer, Black Paint, and Clear Coat? Am I missing anything else?

One more thing, Can I just paint the rims while they are still on the truck?

Thanks in advanced

-Erik

sure, a lot of people have painted there chrome rims black. i think if you look around on the forum, you should find some examples and maybe a diy.
the most important part is the prep. if you dont do it right, its not going to work

hmmmm... I don't know, I don't think I've seen anyone that had painted the stock chromes.... They're plastic, and I sincerely doubt would hold up very well, even with good prep work.

Of course I guess I could be wrong, but I don't see painting plastic and it being able to hold up to the elements outside.

See thats what I was wondering. I might just buy a whole new set of rims that are black when I get my lift.

I know people painted their nonchrome stock 20s and their chrome stock 17s black but i guess the chrome 20s might be different. powdercoating will probably be a better option buts its more expensive

Do you have a estimated guess on how much a powdercoat would be?

Yea I read his DIY and it was pretty detailed. But I'm looking at the Moto Metal Skull rims. I love they way they look. But I need to save for them.

yeah, the best thing probably to do would be just save for some new ones. its a whole lot easier but then again, those stock 20s look pretty good in black
