Silly question but, have you put in the Tstat the correct way round?
I believe they can go in both ways?

Angry UPDATE- no change

Put the old thermostat back in with no difference. Either a massive air bubble or look at the heater hoses again. Can some one tell me which heater hose goes to which port of the water pump please? If nothing else just confirm it's hooked up right.

When I drove it today would go to 3/4 temp, would stay a while then shoot up. Turn it off and the upper hose is going through convulsions and making gurgling sounds. While shut off and heater fan on sometimes would get heat sometimes just cool air.

Really hoping the TS would be the problem.
