Default underdrive pulley

Thinking of getting a new underdrive pulley. They're supposed to give about 12hp and 19ft lbs of torque on the hemi. Has anyone gotten one yet? If so does it work? I'm looking for any bolt ons to squeeze the most hp out of my engine without goin into it.

From a quick Google search...

03-Present Hemi Truck 5.7L Underdrive Pulley. 20% underdrive harmonic dampner. Requires shorter belt Gates pn K060988. 7 hp, & 19 ft.lbs torque to the wheels.

But... $285 not including the shorter drive belt and fitting.

You want to make sure you get a quality pulley set. Not a piggyback style or no damper as Hoss's article states.

Honestly, for the little bit of power that is gained, it's not worth it. The dealer will void anything related of course. Your alternator, power steering and A/C will all suffer because those pulleys will rotate slower than stock. That's where you are getting the power from. Your only robbing Peter to pay Paul. Just not worth it. IMO Besides. 345hp isn't enough? Supercharge it then without going internally.

Charging issues at idle and other side effects are not worth the couple of horsepower that you will gain at 5000rpm.
Those gains seem a bit high for real world gains.

yep, do the e-fan first, if you dont have it already. that ones a little safer. i agree with all above, i wouldnt want to slow down my ac compressor, alternator, etc. The e-fan, i dont really see any downside to as long as you test it and know it can cool down enough. but theres plenty of info on here to do that without a problem.

Thats what i was thinking but I wasnt sure just how much power it would rob from my accesories, if it was even noticable. Im not dropping 3-4 grand on a supercharger plus install either, as much as I would love to. Havnt done the e-fan yet but plan on it in the future. This just seemed like a relatively cheap way to get some extra hp easily.

sounds to me like you would be happy with the e-fan. and it looks to be cheaper than the underdrive pulley if you piece it together using the ford taurus fans. i think theres a DIY in here on it.

Default try it out first!

I have an underdrive pulley on my v6. Matter of fact, this is my second truck I have put an underdrive pulley on. I have never had problems with mine. The power gains are worth the money. However, do get a quality pulley. My alternator and a/c have never suffered. I also have the e-fan. Great combo! If I ever get a v8, one of the first mods will be the new pulley, no worries here.
