yeah i could probably borrow one from someone, do you think the code will shut off right away or may it take a little while for it to register that there is no problem anymore?

You'll have to reset the code. Autozone or Advanced will do it for free.

As hard as it is to believe, yes the gas caps do go bad. If you can't find one to borrow to test out on your truck I would just go buy one. They are so cheap it is an fix and if that isn't the problem you can at least rule that out.

i just swapped gas caps with a friend who owns a second gen ram and i went to advanced to have the reset the computer..hopefully this will solve it, if his ce light comes on then i think we know what the problem is and if mine comes on then we can rule out the gas cap as the problem

Thanks for the help guys!

sure will..may take a day though because when this first happend we couldn't find anything wrong with any hoses or the evap canister so we just reset it and around a day later it came back on so we'll see hopefully by tomorrow

those things are touchy as hell man. I'd just get a new gas cap and move on. My wrangler had one come on for it back in the day. I just took it off then back on and reset the computer. never had the code again lol.

Hey ya, Apparently gas cap was my problem. I reset the codes and tightened the gas cap. seemed tight to begin with but the CE light still hasnt come on, so I guess if it comes on again I'll buy a new cap. Thanks guys!
