Question Water Pump Operation?

edite with picture of broken impeller being my problem all along

Me again trying to home in on my cooling problem.

Question- if the upper hose is off the rad, no T-stat and water in the rad. Will the water pump suck it out of the rad and out the upper hose as soon as the engine is started? I tried that and not a drop. Bad water pump???

Are you saying it won't pump right away? I am trying to determine with certainty if my pump is bad or my problem lies elsewhere.

If your pump is bad it would be leaking from the weep hole as I call it, it has other names though. The water pump dose not act exactly like a displacement pump. You are trying to use it for a sump pump. It don't work that way. just drain it from the bottom...

You will pump water out of the top hose if it's working.

if the fins on the inside have rotted or broken off for some reason,Then it won't leak outta the weep hole.and yes it should be pumping water out of the top radiator hose when running especially with no t-stat in.how do you think a water pump works?

anyways Mr.Wing let me know if the water pump was the problem, I'm STILL having that same exact problem. And i've replaced all the parts that you have also.I'm thinking that its my water pump too.I just need to get off my duff and check it

Mr. Rtrtrrdr, in case you haven't followed my woes I have a brand new AC Delco WP. I never even touched the shaft (LOL). Talks about not banging on the shaft... never did.

My current plan is put it all back together WITHOUT the T-Stat with tap water to verify the pump is pumping. Going to do that tonight if the creek don't rise.

as already mentioned your water pump should,if working, pull water from the radiator.
