It will if there is no air pocket in the pump housing.
Pour water into the upper hose until the radiator starts pushing water out of the upper hose connection.

Gentlemen, I found the problem, at least the big one. After checking for pumping water and got none I called a mechanic friend and we thought there was no other choice but to pull it and see wazzup.

The impeller was broken badly. The darks parts should be ONE part.

Now to see how much trouble I get from A-Cdirect who I bought it from through Amazon.

That is what I was trying to get at. As soon as air gets around the impeller it will not pump. It will not prime itself like trash pump.

As for the broken water pump I have never seen one that has broke like that out of the box. Only time I have seen a broken one is when I bought an engine from a salvage yard that was involved in a frontal collision. Wow that is crazy...

Looking at the impeller closer it is designed as a two piece construction glued or ultrasonically welded together. Whatever joining method used didn't work. The disk halves separated and jammed after a while. The half connected to the shaft sheared off it's disk maybe partially pumping for a while giving the inconsistent behavior. Finally just too much damage and stopped working at all. All within about 100 miles or less.

Definitely a manufacturing defect and the supplier is making good on it.

Me again trying to home in on my cooling problem.

Question- if the upper hose is off the rad, no T-stat and water in the rad. Will the water pump suck it out of the rad and out the upper hose as soon as the engine is started? I tried that and not a drop. Bad water pump???

hey greathwhite , i never saw your original post , but what was your original complaint? did you trucks just straight up overheat or just heat up a little? my truck heats up when i have a trailer with a 2k lb load on it , and in the summer at 90 degrees +. same thing ive had everything else done , except check the waterpump - so that makes me wonder x 3 lol
