Default Looking at a '04, 2500 and have a code

Long time Durango owner looking at a used Ram.

The truck is showing a P0700 (I did STF) and I know its a general code. My code reader won't do the tranny. Is a code reader that reads tranny codes a special Dodge reader or are they easily available?

Basically the truck seems to have no overdrive (not sure how many other gears work) and the engine won't rev over 3700 RPM (feels like it hits a limiter). Any ideas beside take it to a dealer?

The truck is a really good price so I'd be willing to do some extra work with it.

Okay. Took the truck for a test drive. P0700 was present (research shows that this just indicates that the tranny controller has a code). Cleared the code and it immediately comes back. There are no other codes present at the OBD2 level. Is there a commercially available reader that will read and clear tranny codes? Does anyone have an idea what may be wrong given the symptons?

It's only giving me the top level P0700 code and not the underlying code for the actual problem. I have a code reader and my friend has a reader and logger. Still only getting the P0700.
