I am no exhaust expert, but i was told never to go larger than a quarter inch over your stock exhaust. I left my set-up at 3 inch when I swapped it and experienced a nice improvement. Then again, as Rubberfrog stated, my truck is one of the slow ones and I constantly have old ladies in 1997 buick le sabres flying by and giving me the finger....

Haha. No you should see the vicious old bitties up my way. Reminds me of the Beachboys song, little old lady from ON Canada. But back on topic 2.25".

You don't leave open 2.25 pipes out the back. You put stainless tips 3"+

So I know this is an old thread but I'm using the search function to help me with some exhaust questions.

Looking at rubberfrogs math and explanation, there's really not alot of benefit to going with the true dual 2.25 over the stock 3"?

I've got an 07 that the previous owner installed a 3'' cat back system with a magnaflow muffler. Tubes come down from the exhuast manifold on each side of the engine and crossover each other and then go into the muffler, single in dual out. This crossover looks like its 2" or 2.25" pipes and one of them is crimped pretty good.

I've asked two different exhaust shops about redoing just the crimped section and both said it wouldn't make any difference and wasn't worth it. One guy recommended true duals. But, if I'm reading this stuff right, the true duals wouldn't do much if anything at all...right?

That's why I just went with a Magnaflow cat-back. It flows good enough for a basically stock Hemi and sounds great. Looks good too.

And other than the crimped y-pipe in the front, the 08 has no kinks past that. Nice smooth bends. Took about an hour to remove the stock set-up and install the Magnaflow. I didn't change the mid pipe because it is the same as the Magnaflow, just not as pretty
