Evap code question
i have 2 codes coming up on my tac and i would like to find out what they are in laments terms. i have code P-0440 (Evap sys Perf) and P-0456 (Evap leak monitor small) what are these and where are they located? can i fix them myself?
check for any bad hoses near the ps pump to see if there are any problems there, if nothing then check your gas cap, i had an evap code on my dash last week and i switched gas caps with my friend who owns another ram and the code never came back on once i had it reset at advanced
A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened: The gas cap is not installed or working properly. The purge solenoid has failed. The canister is plugged and not working properly.
P0456- small evap leak detected related to the P0441 which is in most cases the result of debris in the Evaporative Emission Control System.
Tips: Be careful in choosing parts to use, so that you'll be satisfied just like in my gmc oem parts

Ya I have a 2003 dodge ram 2500 hemi and the code P0440 has came up so i went and bought a new gas cap and 5 days later is came back on showin the same code? so what I have a bad purge solenoid or canister?? is those easy to fix yourself? where are they located at under the hood? Thanks
You most likely have a crack in one of the hoses connected to the EVAP cannister (see attachment #10).
Yes, it is easy to fix yourself. You might need an inspection mirror to see the tops of the hoses , but check them carefully for splits and cracks. If they are cracked, just replace them. If you can't find any cracks, try replacing your gas cap, as the gasket may be bad.
Good luck!

So I looked at the hoses they are the stock old ones but dont seem to have any cracks on them and the canister looks good?? but sometimes when I get out of my truck I smell fuel?? so there has to be a leak right under there somewhere but cant find it? could they purge solenoid or canister be plugged? I called the stealer and they said they would have to hook it up to the smoke machine but just or that its 135 bucks!! this sucks
