weird humming noise - tranmission problem?
Hey guys,
I'm new to this thread and this is my first post, I recently purchased a 2003 dodge ram 1500 with 110km's on it and I love the truck, this is the first dodge I've owned and I think it is great.
However, I notice when I'm accelerating, whenever the RPM's reach 2000 there's a noticeable humming noise, it does'nt matter which gear i'm in or how fast I'm going it always does it, and only at 2000rpm, if I give it a little more gas and go up to 2200rpm it stops, or if I let off the gas and go down to 1800rpm it stops.
I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this, or if this could be a potential transmission problem, or engine problem?
any feedback or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Craig.

By the description it kind of sounds like the rear diff. Mine has made a little bit of a hum between 40 and 50 mph. Below or above that it's silent. If you have the factory 9.25 limited slip diff it might be a good time to pull off the cover and do a through inspection. The primary thing you're looking for are parts of the infamous "C" clips. They are the snap rings that hold the clutch pack together. They have a tendency to break off and either fall to the bottom or totally "F" things up. I had one go in my truck. I went ahead and replaced the diff to the true trac.
As for the tranny I really don't know to much about them. You can at least make sure the level is correct and that the fluid isn't burnt. you can tell if it's burnt by color and smell.
Hopefully someone else with more experience will chime in.
