Default Front drive shaft?

I have an 05 dodge ram 1500 that is AWD. No 2 wheel drive just All wheel drive 4 low 4 high. If I took the upper drive shaft off for the summer would that potentially cause any damage to my truck? Really sucks not having 2wheel drive sometimes

oh, hahaha. Thats the front driveshaft. You had me all jacked up!

Being all wheel drive, Im not sure if you will mess something up or not. But as far as simple mechanics go, I would say no. That would be like me unbolting my front driveshaft, no worries.

pretty much the same thing. dodge had this in the 70s on their trucks, and thats what most guys did was drop the front driveshaft out of it for better mpg's. my ex father in law had one, and thats what he did on it. i cant imagine its much different on the newer ones

As long as there is no grease seal that has to ride on the yoke shaft to keep the transfer case from spewing fluid out without the driveshaft, you will be ok. I don't think you will gain a whole lot from removing it, though.

nah you should be fine doing that. the yoke at the transfer case will always be spinning, but thats not a big deal. actually, its a pretty good idea to do that, not only to save some mpgs, but saves a TON of wear and tear on the front suspension/tires also. do it

Now that I think about it (thanks redone), my toolpusher has an old powerwagon, that has all time all wheel drive, and he told me once that he had disconnected the front driveshaft for driveability reasons.
