Default front hub removal - 4x2

Hi guys,

I'm trying to replace the driver side front hub on my 2003 dodge ram 1500, except the hub does not want to come out of the steering knuckle, I beat it with a hammer from behind and tried to pry it out but it seems to seized in there pretty good.

I was just curious how other guys were able to remove them or if there is some trick to get them out?

I was thinking of losening off the three bolts that hold it in place then putting a socket on one of them and jamming something inbetween it and the frame then try turning the wheel towards the truck, would this work or am I just likely to damage something?

any help would be great.

Thanks,
Craig.

You may be able to rent a puller from your local auto parts store and try to pull it off instead of beating it. If you do beat it, make sure you are hitting evenly on opposite edges.

I've looked around on-line for a tool and called a couple part stores, but it didn't seem like they had a tool that would work, and I didn't want to spend anymore money after dropping $300 for the hub.

Would it make more sense to hit down on that triangular piece with the threaded holes in it from the front or should I keep hitting it from the back?

you should maybe try a pitman arm puller i cant remember exactly how the set up is down there or even a picklle fork. The pitman arm puller works really good if you can use it. Look on google for pics of one and you will see what ways its used and see if you can make it work. Should be able to find one at most stores for under 20$ same with the pickle fork.

Sorry if this is totally the wrong idea i just cant picture it at all for some reason right now, been working on my friends damn nissian to much lately lol.

Yeah, I saw a couple of those at the parts store, but those won't work, I have to push the hub out form the inside of the steering knuckle, and there's no where on the inside of it to grab onto

so I guess my best bet is to beat the crap out of it with a hammer?

I just pulled both my wheel hubs when doing my spindle lift and aside from pulling the caliper I just took out the 3 bolts on the backside that went through the spindle and the both just came right out with no issues.

99% of the time they are a huge pain. when you put it back together put never sieze around the spindle for the future. I have actually had to cut the ball joints and press them out at the shop once but usually you grab a sledge and whale away on it. also try heating the spindle with a torch around the bearing if repeatedly hitting it doesnt work. good luck.

Ahhh Yes, Anti-sieze is untouchable when it comes to ensure future work ease ability!
