DIY intakes.
I saw some crome piping lengths elbows gaskets etc, for what looks like a DIY intake at auto zone. Anyone try them out yet? Also what ends up working out better a short intake or a long intake extending all the way to the fender.
short. but get it as far away from the engine as possible. and try to fab up some sort of heat shield for the filter. brings in even cooler air. and those will work fine. but u might as well get a cheep one off ebay. i mean all of those bends and pipes will add up to be more that just getting a cheep $90 one at ebay
Paying for the pieces Isn't really the issue. I have a friend who works at autzone. While your around what do you think about the throttle body spacer? I read a little bit about them and I don't think the 'whistle' will drive me nuts but a new intake and spacer sounds like 2 things that will compliment eachother if installed together. What are your thoughts?
i dont have one. but i made a diy intake out of pvc pipe for my ram. but as far as the TB spacer goes. ive heard alot about fastman 52mm TBs. try to search that. something about being a really good product and it is a "true 52mm spacer"?
**not speaking from personal experience**
The tb spacers are considered around these parts as "a $100 paperweight".
As far as the fastman tb's, its also hearsay that he carries a good product, but i sure hope its bigger than 52mm.........
ALSO, back to your original question, diy intakes work fine. I fabbed mine up with 4in pvc pipe/elbow, 3in couplers. But, mine just goes from the tb to the factory air box, that holds a k&n drop-in. Only cost $30 for the materials, and I have enough left to make one for the ol' lady's durango

Those chrome intakes at Autozone? Were they by Spectre? If so, I bought a hack up set of pieces using that stuff. Ended up being a 3" intake tube, wouldn't even fit the 3.25" TB intake. I ended up returning the pieces and just ordering an aftermarket CAI kit. Figure I want all the pieces and proper fitment without having to do it all myself.
