Smile 1500 solid axe swap

now im new to the forum world and i have no much clue how this hole process works , but i own a 06 1500 ram that currntelt has a 6inch procomp lift and 35s , i know that anything can be done but im very curiose on if anyone has done a sold axle swap with the 1500s in the 3rd jens , now i know it may seem pointless cause why not just buy a 2500 but i already own a 1500 and in the begging had no intentions on lifting it , but know the talbes have changed a bit , so does anyone know anything about this topic ? thank you

I have toyed with the idea of doing a SAS on my 08 dodge. But, for now I am controlling the urge. Here is a rough idea of what I will do eventually.

Axles - undecided at this point, don't know if i want to swap out just the front (older ford or dodge) or swap a whole set (newer ford/dodge 3/4 or 1 ton).

Suspension - somewhere around a 6-8 inch leaf spring lift from an older chevy or ford SD. With the added lift from the hanger and shackle, should tower over 38"

Frame - brace front crumple zone, and install a standard steering box, preferably 3/4 dodge style for compatibility.

Extras - standard stuff, shocks, adapt draglink to pitman arm, sway bar, new front drive shaft, etc.

Has been done by a few, don't know the specifics (what axle was used, etc.) but I know there was a LOT of fabrication which also means expense involved, unless you have a shop and can do it yourself...

I thought about this myself. Just wondered if you could use the front axle off of an older 2nd gen half ton. Should be able to pick one of those up pretty cheap.

Its been done before. The guy who built the truck in this artical has almost 6K in the SAS alone.

I was also toying with the idea the first time I took my 04 1500 offroading. Needless to say after replacing a CV joint and having the front end aligned the next day, I sold it after 3 months and bought a 2500. That is the cheapest SAS you can do...

I went from this, that I bought in November 08:

To this, That I bought in January 09:

Unless your offroad more than on. The 1500 IFS is just fine. There's no need to do a SFA swap IMO. Especially since your from L.I. There's not much there.

Alphie had the right plan. Cheapest way is to trade or sell the 1500 for a 2500.
I am still waiting for the first time I destroy a CV. I've put mine through it's paces, to be sure, and so far so good.
I have been thinking about carrying a spare in the tool box though. Changing one out in the field is not all that hard, and I already carry the tools I would need...
