Unhappy "Lamp Out" turns out to be ALL brake lamps...!

I've been looking at "Lamp Out" on the dash for a while now and it turns out that ALL the brake lights are not working. My son & I thought it could be a bad relay, but there don't seem to be any relays specifically for this function.

Any of you Rammers out there got any idea about what we should check? any fix suggestions?

Thank in advance for any help here! Cheers

A good start would be to post what your truck is.
Eg, 5.7 Hemi or 4.7, year and model etc.

I can see from your profile it is a 1500, but that's not sufficient info to help you on this.

Hi Al. Thanks for offering to help. It's a 2003 1500 4.7L gas engine standard cab. Cheers.

The brake lights are powered by Fuse #24 (15 amps) in the underhood fuse box (known by Dodge as the Integrated Power Module). There's no relay involved -- it's a direct connection from +12v to the brake switch to the lights.

I think the switch is mounted near the brake pedal. It is on other trucks but I haven't worked on that area in my Dodge before.

Good luck!

It could also be the strip the tail light bulbs go into, those are notorious for failing. $20 a pop to replace them.

Well damn talk about coincidences, the "Lamp Out" warning popped up on me today while I was heading home from the inlaws. Did it twice within 5min and then went away and never popped up for the rest of the drive home.

bakerman, when yours came on was it constantly on or did it flash once and go away? I have never had this light come on before.

Soundslike a bad connection to me! I would pull the bulbs out and see if the socket is corroding. Put some dielectric grease on the bulb base for added protection and better power transfer.

Default "Lamp Out"

"...bakerman, when yours came on was it constantly on or did it flash once and go away? I have never had this light come on before."

Light is constantly on. When I switch on the ignition it blinks for a few seconds and then stays on. Been like this for a couple of weeks already.
