Post 4x4 Vibration

I have a 06 Ram 1500 4x4 with a limited slip rear end. When i lock into 4 wheel drive i have a shimmy/vibration in the front end. I have went to 2 dealerships and they tell me it that they all do this. They say it is because of limited slip that there is nothing to give. One dealership even put new axles in and that did nothing to help. It only does this at low speed under 30 mph. And the more gas you give it the more it vibrates. I have a hard time believing that there is not something wrong, and they are blowing smoke up my *** . Anyone else having this problem?

I would think that an LS would only "vibrate" like that when in a turn. Does it "vibrate" when going straight?

Assuming they checked all the U-joints and CV joints and everything's tight, I'd check the front driveshaft for balance issues.

front diff is open, only rear is LSD----unless its a power wagon, and they only made those in a 3/4 ton

Check your u-joints on the drive lines and the front axles, if they are bad, federal-mogul makes greasable ones for about the same price as non-greasable, and they can be gotten at napa

Do you have a leveling kit on yer truck? if so, how tall?

I have heard of 4x4 vibes after a leveling kit.

I do have a front end lift kit on the truck. It is a Top Gun Customz 2.5" leveling kit.Do all lift kits cause this problem? I have seen lots of these trucks lifted. I sure hope they don't all vibrate in 4 wheel drive like mine. It is very annoying. Any fix for this issue?

I'd keep investigating the issues that were mentioned before you make the assumption it's your leveling kit (doesn't sound like you've done that).

Are all the u-joints tight and rotating freely?
Are the CV joints the same?

If you answer yes and the dealership won't help, I'd take it to a driveline specialist and have them diagnose it.

Welcome to the shudder club bro. I've been dealing with this very issue since November 2008. Been into the dealer 5 times... replaced the same things your dealer did, even went through the tires. Nothing worked.

I've filed for lemon law and was to have a hearing May 18th.. well, the week before Chrysler filed for bankruptcy... so my hearing was put on hold until a federal bankruptcy judge clear them.

Since January I have been doing plenty of research on the issue... there are quite a few guys out there with this issue, with and without a leveling kit installed. I've come to the conclusion that it's related to the inner CV joints. They are crap! If I do not hear back on my hearing within the next two months I will be purchasing the High Angle Inner CV Joint Kit from K.O.R.E ($625). I am thoroughly convinced this will resolve the issue.

The OEM inner CV's can only handle up to like 15 degrees of pinion angle... The KORE kit will handle up to 30 degrees.

Good luck bro...
