Default 20 inch wheel... covers?

I am a little confused...

I just purchased a 05 Ram SLT with the Big Horn package. In this package were chrome 20" rims. I assumed a one piece aluminum rim that had been chromed. I just parked it for the night, and it appears that the chrome is a cover... maybe plastic?? It's dark outside, so I cant get a good look, but when I tapped on it, it sounded like it was plastic.

Little help here? What do I have on this truck?

yeh you should see the hideous wheel that they hide underneath... should have had them swapped for the polished aluminum instead. It costs almost as much to replace the hubcap through the dealer as it does to buy a used polished wheel on ebay. Only dissadvantage to the polished wheels is that they put a clear coat on them so dont bother trying to polish them with mother's or something similar.

everyone rips on the chrome-clad wheels, but neglect to mention that you can go a month or two without cleaning the damn things and they stay shiny...

dirt doesn't seem to stick to them very well

Dude, chill with the caps...

if they are 20" wheels, then they should not be plastic (except for the lil center cap) its either polished aluminum or chromed aluminum....i dont know why you think its plastic....?? My 05 has the polished aluminum 20's

NO, if you bought the wheels that are listed as the "chrome clad" 20" set, then YES you basically have a giant plastic hubcap that goes over the inner rim facing that extends all the way to the actual edge of the wheel, to where the bead is. You can tell by looking at the edge there at the plastic cap because there is like a seam area that shows a gap, the polished alumiun set doesnt have this gap, like the set on my truck. Call your parts dept at the local Dodge house and you will find out that the Chrome set has a hubcap that fits over an alumiun based wheel(a different wheel than the polished set) and that you CAN NOT purchase the plastic part seperately at this time, only the entire wheel which is like $700. But it is defintely a plastic part that is chromed.

YES, the Dodge "chrome" wheels are actually just black steel wheels with plastic covers glued to them. That is true for the 20s and my 17s. It's a big joke...and that's why people instantly started making fun of Dodge since they introduced their "dubs" a few years ago. Personally I think the true aluminum 17s that are optional are the best choice. Wish I had gotten them instead. [:@]
