I had the exact problem. I solved it by taking a razor blade, evenly scraping the plastic edge on the reverse side of the latch. Doing this widened the edge..Then, I bought some black felt velcro. I cut the velcro to the exact size as the latch. Once I did that I put some glue (the strongest stuff I could find) on the sticky side of the velcro, and fit it on the reverse side of latch, making sure to press the velcro down into the opening of the latch (reverse side). I used the glue to hold the velcro to the latch..Once I let that dry for about a day, I cleaned the window, and glued the sticky side of another piece of velcro to the widow, making sure the felt velcro side was facing out. Again, I let that dry for about a day. Finally, I pressed the two velcro sides (one on the latch, the other on the window) together. I put glue on both sides to ensure the latch held. Once that was together, I closed the window with the latch on. I left it closed for about a week to dry and set. Its been about 2 years, still holding strong..The entire thing was a $10 fix, but did take some time and patience. Better than having the dealer do it. Hope this helps.

Use a dremel tool and carefully grind out the latch material and glue the new one on using rearview mirror adhesive...

I'm guessing it's epoxied on, so no matter what, it's going to be tough to get off. I'd try the razor blade, or maybe a small piece of hack saw blade. It's going to be a lot of work, but you should be able to get it off eventually. As for putting the new one on, I'd go with epoxy again. Just make sure whatever kind you buy is compatible with both metal and glass.

Default rear window latch

thanks to all for the advice... I never thought of dremelling it off ..it seems like it will take this kind of force to do the job..going to try that, and let you know how it worked..once I get it ground down close to glass, maybe the razor will clean up the final bit...mirror epoxy may not work because the new latch clip is all plastic on backing..I'll need a plastic to glass type adhesive...thanks again guys...stay tuned..I may have to put a boot thru it all before I'm DONE
