Default Exhaust cutout

This is not a thread about installing a cut out because i dont have an E-cutout instead I am running a permanent cutout and was curious as my dad believes i am destroying my truck and looking for some helpful advice.
I am getting dual exhaust put on soon but have been running a cutout for about 2 weeks
My dad says I will burn up my exhaust valves because it needs some back pressure for the engine and the cutout is after the Y pipe and cats so there should be back pressure
If you have an idea it would be helpful and my dad is the parts manager at a dodge dealership so I kinda believe he has some credibility but not that much

well obviously running an engine without backpressure isn't gonna be the best thing in the world for it, but for 2 weeks you should be fine unless you've been driving cross country those weeks...

I doubt it is destroying your engine. You are not running straight pipes, its still running through the stock restrictive manifold, stock cats, and stock restrictive y pipe so there is still some back pressure there. I believe the problem comes in if you are truely running open headers as in just the headers and straight pipes (no cats, no Y pipe).

Also look around at EVERY exhaust ad by EVERY performance exhaust company (headers and Catbacks), they all claim that lowering the back pressure gained hp and tq in their tests so I cant see lowering the back pressure harming your engine.

The only thing that I can say for sure though is that I noticed when running with my cutout open I added 3-4 tenths of a second on my 0-60 times compaired to through my catback.

I have been running my cutout open for months straight without a problem. You will be fine, there is still plenty of backpressure left in your system.

Yep you read it right, 0-60 times got slower by an average of .38sec compared to running through the catback. I have done it a few times since thinking it was a fluke or something but its not. Every time it averages out to a at least 3 tenths of a second slower running through the cutout. I want to do a 1/4 mile run though and see what happens there. From what I have heard from a few places I am hurting the low end but improving the top end with it open. Im going to do it again this weekend now that I have modified my intake since the last time I tried it and see where Im at there.

Doesn't make to much sense to me but one of the shops around me is doing a dyno day on the 6th so I want to run over there and do a few tests with it open and closed and see what happens.

alright that is what i thought i keep telling him that there is enough pressure on the system still since what is the point of putting in headers high flow cats and then running a performance muffler with a downturn would be the equivalent of what i am running right now and i know open headers would be bad but not after all the stock restrictive peices and off road you have been running it for months with no problem good to hear

The only thing that did worry me was when you do about a 10 mph role and let of the throttle it does a weird rev were it drops to like 400 rpm and then bounces to like 600 rpm repeatedly till i hit the brakes to kick it out of gear or give it gas to start moving and that was the only thing that worried me because it would do it over and over again if you are just barely moving but otherwise not a problem in sight so can anyone shed some light on that problem thanks for the help

Thats odd, I definitely dont have that problem. Did it just start happening after you cut off the muffler?
