Hey!
Hey everyone I'm Shawn. I drive an 08 Ram with the V6. So far its got a airaid intake, fully custom exhaust single in dual out, bfgoodrich allterrains, and airram power wire. I am looking to do some type of forced induction, and the closest thing I have found is the universal STS kit, if there are any pointers I would like to know, cause a new car or truck for me is out of the question. Hope to talk to you on the forums!

sts turbo ARE in fact turbos, but they don't produce as much power as a god ole' fashion turbo. sts turbos are cool if you are in a corvette, because you go from like 500 to 540 hp for example, but our trucks are gonna go from like 200hp to like 220 horsepower...cause we have a v6, and the exhaust going out the back is limited AND we're in a long truck, so all that piping has lots of room to hold air, meaning it takes a while to spool up the turbo, resulting in a massive lag. i talked to the vernon hills rep for sts, and he didn't bullsh!t me at all...he told me what to expect, and informed me not to expect super gains.

Actually, the lag really isn't that big of an issue. The turbo may take slightly longer to spool, but with a remote mount setup, you don't HAVE to run an intercooler (I still recomend it though), the turbo runs 500 degrees cooler, and you don't increase underhood temps. Plus, contrary to belief, power gains are HUGE. You can gain anywhere from 10 to 75% more power with a proper setup. Not to mention, ALL Rams of the same generation are the same except the motors and front suspension. I would say to get the kit for the HEMI, then adapt it to the V6(throttle body is in about the same place). That's what I'm gonne do. However, I do NOT recomend installing ANY kind of forced induction on this motor. It sounds like a good idea, but you have to do all of the research before hand. The 3.7 has a comp ratio of 9.7:1. That's pretty high to begin with. It's recomended that a motor have a comp ratio of 8.5:1 for boost. Get yourself a spare motor and build it. I have found almost everything to do this. I'm going to boost my motor, but only AFTER I free up the intake and exhaust, port the heads, water injection, custom cam, valves and springs, bore the motor to 4.0, get custom copper head gaskets made, and most importantly, get shorter connecting rods to lower the comp ratio. The best way to make reliable power is to build the motor for more than what you are going to push.
