Question Those with LED Taillights please chime in....

Did those of you who have led taillights have to put in relays or anything other than the taillights themselves. My dad seems to think he seen on tv that led taillights and underbody lights need to have capacitors or relays, but he couldnt remember why, what it was called that was needed, or where he saw this. I like to believe it is old age setting in, but figured I would humor him. Thanks for any info you may have.

Oh the lights that I am getting are the recon led taillights. And I know that I have to re-wire to install them, just dont want to get them wired and not have them work because the old man was right.

yes you need them....they are at autozone called LED resistors they come in a 2 pack with tap in connectors....
they are needed because LED uses way less wattage then factory which fools the truck into thinking there is a light out somewhere!

I have the Anzo LED taillights, and they were just plug and play. But I think they had a resistor built in, because there was a little box wired between the lights and the plug.

Mine were also PnP and needed nothing else to go with them. However, the LEDs I am using in my Halos have to have resistors in line on the positive side of the LED so you just need to know which you have or need.

I have a set of LED tails and they were plug and play. Just took the old lights out, unhooked the harness and plugged the new ones in. No need for any additional parts.

yea i forgot to mention most of the new lights like Recon are Plug n Play...they already have the resistor built into them....but either way your dad was right ALL led lights in vehicle application need a resistor, because the wattage is so low on them!

Mine are also plug and play...I used to have LED bulbs in my OEM tails, and those required resistors to keep the "Lamp Out" indicator from turning on and also to prevent fast flashing.

No resistor needed...although when i got my tails in I had to completely re-wire them, which made me really mad so when i called and complained they gave me 50% off my next order (knowing I probably would not be ordering again since all they sold was taillights) Well i got in a wreck two weeks ago and busted both tailights so my insurance company gave me 120ish a piece to replace the oem ones and with my 50% discount I actually made about 150 dollars WOOT! lol

Sorry for the long story but, no resistor needed haha
