I did mine with Krylon black gloss paint and it worked like a charm. Its made for plastics and what not so i just barely sanded the light with number 3 wetordry sand paper and then i put on 3 coats of clearcoat. I didnt use nightshades at all. And i only did the outside and NO light gets through. ORT you definitely need to put eyelids on your truck, i think it would look BA for sure. Ilovemyram, you can do yours the same way you just have to paint more light, also, they make eyelids for yours on ebay if you just search "dodge ram eyelids" they are like 60 bucks or something.
did you just paint the out side of the light? I don't want to pull my lights apart. When you clear coated it did you clear the whole light or just the painted scetion?

Thanks Regert
I only painted the outside of my light and no light comes through at night. I did like 3-4 coats of krylon on the outside, then 3 coats of clearcoat on top of that, Do not take the tape off and clearcoat the whole headlight, just the part you painted. I then let it dry for an hour and a half before even attempting to remove the tap so that way i knew for sure it wouldnt peel when i took the tape off. Make sure you buy the superfine line tape, it'll say on the 3m tape what kind of lines you get, i think mine was green and it may have said #3 on it. With the krylon i think i waited maybe 10-15 minutes in between coats before putting on another one, and same thing with the clear coat. Get #3 wetordry sand paper, it should say clear coating on it, and scuff the light when you have it taped off like this..
and then again just very lightly before you clearcoat it.
Apply coats and make sure that you put it on very lightly so it doesnt run at first, overlap the lights do not start or stop spraying on the light, start and then go over it and then stop once you've completely cleared the light.
Then apply your clearcoat til it looks as shiny as you want it
If you look at your headlights they should have little lines running horizontally on the covers, i used those to estimate where i wanted them to start, if you look at my pictures closely i think i went about 3 and a half lines down and then took it to where it starts to curve around the edge of the light by the blinker. I probably adjusted it 3 or 4 times before i was satisfied with where the tape was. If you want to, tape it off and take a dry erase marker to run a line where the tape is, take off the tape and see if thats where you want the line to be.
ok cool. i was really sad when i couldnt find one for my 03 cause i love the "pissed off" look. so i got black paint and tape so imma do it tomorrow im gonna use electric tape to make the line adn (all i got) duck tape to cover the lens i hope it comes out good..

lol dont be stupid drag your *** to walmart or meijer or any hardware and get painting tape, its like 4 bucks for a roll. You dont want to mess up your headlights and have to buy new ones for 150+ for the pair.

Speaking from experience, electrical tape doesn't play well with paint...unless you dont mind a jagged line (it seeped through on my project) go get some real tape! I think those "$.99 cent" stores have painters tape usually.
Bigmiah, your lids look the best. Done correctly. It matches the black truck flawlessly. I'm going to be doing this to my ram, black eyelids, because I'm painting the entire truck Metallic Black when it warms up a bit here in CO. Which clearcoat did you go with?
