Default When to use Tow/Haul mode

Hey all I'm up in NY and my aunt is giving me and my wife about 600 lbs of slate from a stone wall they are tearing down. I'm putting them all into a moving container which will be secured in the back of the truck, I was wondering do I need to engage the Tow/Haul mode for this ?? We'll be driving down to NYC then back to GA abot 1500 miles total with this in the back. I just don't want to burn out anything or break anything. Thanks H-

Only in hilly terrain. On flat ground, no. It's nice in the hills because it also uses the engine as a brake by automatically downshifting if needed. (At least my 08 does).

a lot of people use tow/haul every single day at city speeds. on the highway just on hills will be fine.

lxman, your tranny should downshift going down hills in cruise control too...even without tow/haul. at least mine does...

It won't hurt anything to be in tow/haul. It'll change the shift pattern to help pull the weight easier, eliminates 5th gear and when the throttle is closed if you are still accelerating (like down a hill) it'll downshift to help with braking...like lx said.

Not usually AF. Might be your 4.56 gears though.
Probably different programming between 2003 and 2008.
