Default 4x4 transfer case ingaging without switch

My 07 Ram 1500 is experiencing on the fly shifting without turning the 4x4 switch. Went to the dealership and they couldn't duplicate problem. So I took it home and next day 4x4 light came on dash. Has done this multiple times since. Went back to dealer and they told me give it a week. Anybody else experienced this? Don't know where else to go. I love my truck and want it fixed! Any help please!!

Had similar on a 05 Dakota. Also, when downshifting on a grade went into tranny limp mode. Turn it off, turn it on and good to go till next downshift. They fixed the tranny, then 4x4 actually tried engaging when I opened the door, truck not even running! In the end, their electrical guy figured it out. 2 loose wire connections in the main pcm harness. They recrimped the pins and got a good fit, then things were fine. Maybe a similar thing for you? I know a few others in the 04-06 range Dodge (RAM and Dak) that had similar electrical gremlins.
The big thing here is to find a condition that can replicate it, be as descriptive as possible. If the techs are good, they'll listen and use that to at least have it happen on them. My case was about a 2 week process; once I could give them a way to replicate it, it still took them 3 days to track the wires down. Electrical issues are not easy on modern vehicles. Be patient and get as much details as possible when it happens.

Good Luck!

They tried the first fix on the tranny(new module), then 4x4 actually tried engaging when I opened the door, truck not even running right at the dealer lot! In the end, their electrical guy figured it out. 2 loose wire connections in the main pcm harness. They recrimped the pins and got a good fit, then things were fine. Maybe a similar thing for you?
