Default Stock LSD will be put to rest soon!

Just contacted Airram about purchasing a Detroit Truetrac to replace the stock LSD. I want to have him press the bearings on so it makes an easier install.
His prices were $519 Carrier & $60 Carrier bearings. I have only 5.5kmi now and I'm gonna re-use all the berings except the ones pressed on the stock carrier. Those will be new.
Hopefully, install will go easy enough and I won't have to change the pinion depth at all. Hopefully it will be as easy as 1-2-3. I will most definately be taking pics and do a write up for those out there interested in doing it themselves. AHHHH, I'm so excited. This is one install i can hide from the wife!...lol I just have to start early just after she leaves for work and get it done by lunch time for room for cushion "just in case"...

This will be just a carrier swap, no new gears, but most of all the same work will be performed. I will keep my 3:92's.

Now I just have to get AIRRAM's logo in my sig so I can get 5% off the deal.

I figure the LSD was more of a concern than shocks and leveling kit at this point with how much i tow.

You guys think i can get away with 100 miles of 3 drives and cooling periods for break in for the carrier? I'm re-using the gears. And i'm gonna have to tow.

As long as you plan on sticking with the 3.92's you'll be fine. I read on another forum about issues with the TruTrac and 4.56's and 4.88's. Didn't know about it and the few on here with that combo have had no problems.
I have researched it and found that Detroit does not recommend the trutrac with gears higher than 4.10's and using it with 4.56 and up voids the warranty, so I'm inclined to think there is merit to the posts...

Where did you find that? Although I can't find them now, I know that instructions that come with the Truetrac say not to use with 38" or larger tires, but I don't remember seeing anything about gear ratios. Also, what issues did people mention? I'm just curious, as I've had no problems with my 4.56/DTT combo (knock on wood).

Nobody here has a single issue that I know of. I got the link from someone else, but never thought to save it. I'll ask him for it again...

I just went directly to their website and pulled up a .pdf of their manual, nothing on gears, but it states on page 1 that the maximum tire diameter should not exceed 32"! That doesn't seem right to me, but it's on page 1.

Yeah, I've never seen/heard of any problems either. And I haven't had any problems personally, but I only have a little over 1000mi on my gears/diff. That's why I was just curious what kind of problems people were having.

Hi Dog.
I did just the DTT install like you are suggeting your doing and unfortunately I had to keep with the 3:55's.
I did replace all the bearings and seals etc as my diff oil was contaminated with the dreaded "sparklies" i the oil.
So even though there was a lot of new parts in the rebuild, I'd still be VERY careful with the run in bud.
My pumpkin got very hot when the DTT was fitted until she "broke in".
It cooled off quite considerably after a few thousand miles.
This leads me to believe that there are still bit's and pieces in there that need to be treated initialy, easyily.
Also, read this e-mail from a Mr Barney Gwozdz of DTT.
I used the stock Mopar diff oil on replacement of the stock LSD with the DTT, and asked if this was acceptable, as I read that the DTT does not like synthetics as Dodge suggest, for our axle's. I have now exchanged it for what he suggested.

Dear Mr. Barmby,

Greetings from the U.S. The Truetrac requirements are as follows - No
synthetics oils, and no additives. Most (not all) synthetic oils cause
excessive slippage causing a reduction in torque loads. I would say that
if you are not having any traction issues after installation, not to
worry.
However Just stick with the good Dino stuff.
