i have an 07 1500 w/ a hemi and was wondering if anyone else hears a loud clunk (definatly louder than normal) when you turn on the a/c... it doesn't happen all the time so theres no point in me bringing it in to the dealer cause they never hear anything. i only have 12k on the truck so age definatly isnt the issue.

 

I have the same problem on my 05.

It scares the hell outta my fiance everytime it happens if we're going down the road cause she thinks i hit something. lol

I thought it was a bad ball joint or somethin at first because it only seemed to do it when i was turning but then it started doing it when i was sittin in the driveway right after i cranked my truck. I aint worried about it but i wanna know what it is too so i can look and see if somethin is wrong or if it's just the a/c clutch bein stupid

 

my 07 Hemi does the same thing when turning on the air conditioner...not all the time though, my last truck, an 06 Ram with the 3.7 did it as well, just whenever I turned on the air conditioner...I personally would not sweat it, although it does kind of make your mind wonder if something is wrong up there...lol

 

Weird cause my 95 318 did that and then when at wot it would cut off completly. LOL

 

Yeah, '08 here and when the clutch kicks in it is quite loud but is perfectly normal. You've got a big compressor there, so the initial impact is gonna be harder or "louder" when the clutch locks into place. Plus there's alot of resonance factor given the size of the engine bay.

Ohh, it should make the same sound the entire time you have the a/c on. It makes the noise everytime the compressor kicks on. And that happens regularly like every 30sec. You prob just can't hear it over the blower motor once you crank the air after it gets cold!!!
