Default Drop Shackles (McGaugheys) installed..couple questions.

I installed them on the rear yesterday

1. Why did I only get 1 1/2" on one side and about 1 1/8" on the other? They measured the same before I installed them.

2. Are the shackles supposed to point perpendicular (straight down) to the ground or angle towards the rear of the truck? The stock ones were angled back and thats how I installed these..which probably explains why I didnt get a full 2in drop.

1. Make sure the ground is level and that youve driven the truck around the block or at least somewhere.

2. They are angled towards the rear, therefore giving you the desired drop. The lowering shackles cant give you a full 2" of drop, but the Mcgaughys will get you the closest out of them all. it would be kind of stupid to sit there and say "McGaughys 1 3/4 inch drop shackles. Its just like a 6 inch suspension lift; is it really 6 inches? No. Is it close? Yes.

Yep, I have installed the same shackles and got 1-1/2 drop. I believe there is some slight binding that also occurs due to the short shackle. I have been running mine for close to 4 years and have had no problems. I also have my top (helper) spring removed. The spring is 3/4" thick and I got just over an inch drop. So I guess there is no set formula. My shocks are gone and will be changing them soon. Just need to fogure whether I'll drop the rear anymore first.
Good luck...

I have the same shackles as well. First, the only way you're going to get full 2" is to remove the helper spring like mentioned. Second, my shackles are pointing towards the rear at about 15-20 degrees.

Ok, thanks guys. I was on level ground....in my garage. Which I hope is level.

I drove it around for a day and remeasured and it seemed to even out and give me about an 1 1/2" drop like all you said.

On another note, its strange how just that small amount of drop shifts the center of gravity of the truck and makes it feel much more stable and less roll in the corners.
