Hello all, I just recently upgraded from a 2002 Dakota to a 2006 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 QC. Man this truck is hot.....

Question is the truck only came with one key/fob. I have one fob from a 2000 Durango. Both are 3 button (lock, unlock, panic). Anyone know if the 2000 rango one can be programmed to work on the 06 Ram?

 

There is an IC number on the backside. If they match up then yes you can reprogram it.

 

There is no IC number on the 2000 Durango remote so will have to ask the dealer.

Another question is there are gobs of already cut key/fob combos on ebay for very cheap. I obviously can't use the key portion. But is it possible to just get the fob portion programmed and just cut off the key and use it as just a fob. I can't see why not but did not know if the actual key portion was needed to program it.

 

I think when I had mine done they had to put it in and start the truck and turn the ignition on and off. check with the dealer.

 

question. how do you know if the truck came with a key fob? i bought my truck only the driver door has a keyhole. does that mean it has a keyless entry?

 

Very likely. My '03 has keyless entry and only one keyhole. Same with my Mazda. My 300 may as well, but it's out in the rain and I've already had my shower today.

 

It just means they are cheap and cut cost by eliminated a key cylinder.
