Default taking a trip to philly need opinions..

Ok here is my deliema (spelling is bad becasuse im a lil druunk). Anyway I am headed to philly in 3 weeks. I want to take my ram to show my family, since I really only see them once a year. So im down to two questions:

First: I've heard this from many places that leaving your tailgate down gets you better mpg on the highway. Is this true? I dont have a tonue cover.

Second: I will be driving with my wife to downtown philly and sight seeing again. Since my tailgate has no lock what are the chances of it getting stolen?

My idea was that if the mpg thing is true to just leave the tailgate at home that way we might save a mpg or two and we wouldnt have to worry about it getting stolen. It looks dumb off though. Thanks for the advice.

Mythbusters on the tailgate thing...tailgate down was the worst, hard cover vs gate up were equal and mesh with gate removed was the best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3aqHbD-O9E

Tailgates are easy to remove...it can get stolen anywhere. You can always buy a pop n lock lockable handle.

Best thing for MPG is slowing down some. I know, it sucks, but 70 instead of 78-80, makes a huge difference. If you can stand it.

locks only keep honest people honest. If its your gates time to be stolen, then it will be stolen. Its Philly right? Not Compton. Relax and enjoy the trip man.

Why lock your house or your truck then? The lock makes it take a lot longer to remove and makes it more obvious to bystanders....nothing can keep someone out if they really want in. Thieves like a soft target...so they'll go for a house without a dog and a gate without a lock.

Leave it alone. Leave the tailgate on (as mythbusters showed it isnt worse than even having a cover on it). If you want better mpgs, you couuuuuld get the mesh (as they report a 5% gain) but those are HIDEOUS and you'll save 10% by slowing from 80 mph to 70mph (and another 10% slowing to 60mph where it is most efficient). Dont worry about the lock... its philly afterall. You're more likely to get some kind of disease walking through the streets... man I hate philly. I'm a pittsburgh boy. GO PENS!!!! (steelers too). Superbowl and Stanley Cup in the same year (first city to ever do so).

Thats why I have a security system on my house, two pitbulls, numerous guns, and ***** of steel to protect my house and family. HAHAHA.

Second I was born in philly and thats where my family is. Met wife at PSU where I lived 18 years and now live down here near Pittsburgh. So we go every year to see them in Philly.

I figured that a tonneau cover would net you at least one or two mpg. Sometimes those mythbusters are crazy with their answers. Just like the guy driving this truck today we called "black justice"

He claimed 18mpg in his truck. I think a little reefer will make you think anything soimetimes.

yeah i dont know...maybe cause the hard tonneau is so heavy, the added weight counteracts the added aerodynamics. I'm with you though... i put on my soft tonneau and definently gained some.
