30,000mi Service help (Tranny, Trans Case, Diff)
So I am almost at my 30,000 mark. I did both diff. at 17,000 with Mobil 1. Should I do them again? Anyone put a drain plug on their diffs or Transmission pan? I put one on my 98 Durango tans pan and it worked great. $5 at Napa. Just a thought.
Also I know ATF+4 for tranny and Transfer case. How do I know which transfer case I have and ammount to fill? Is the best thing to get a tranny flush then drop the pan and change filter after the flush? or do I even bother with the flush? Thanks for the help? Anything I am missing to change at 30,000? Coolant should be ok right? Thanks again

I will probably do the same to the ram. I don't see why this same plug wouldn't work on the Diff cover too?
With changing every 15,000 just seems unnecessary to open up the cover every time. Maybe every other to clean out the magnet. Just my opinion.

I'd agree, but if you have a factory LSD, you better be popping that pumpkin cover for a visual inspection rather than just pulling the plug. Could be some strange things stuck on that magnet... just my
As Hammer Z71 said..............if you have a stock LSD in there, I'd be VERY **** about pulling the cover and checking for damaged retaining clips, EVERY 15K.
I'd give drains a miss on the diff's but a good idea on the engine sump and transmission.
Also, your transfer case model is stamped on a circular plate at the rear of the case towards the rear axle which btw, also tells you what ratio it is.
Post up the model number and someone here will give you it's capacity.
As for the transmission flush, get it done but watch the shop change out both filters when they do it and not just the one, or worse still not bother at all.
Coolant is every three years I believe from memory, so your close, as is power steering and especially brake fluid.
Make sure you get the HOAT coolant the orange one or a coolant suitable for aluminium engines.

Thanks for the answers. I guess I will just pull the diff. covers each time ,to check for stuff. Anyone ever use a gasket for the Diff covers? or just the standard rtv?
As far as the tranny goes I was going to have the shop do a flush then I would drop the pan and change the 2 filters myself.
Are there any DIY threads for any of the fluids? The Difffs I have done, and the transfer case is drain and fill type of thing I believe, and tranny should be just drop pan, replace filters, new gasket and bolt pan back up right?

Engine sump? where would you put a drain on that? Is that the regular oil drain plug? Thanks
It's an English to American back to English language problem with regards to the "drain plug"lol lol.
As for the transfer case, your right. It's just a drain and re-fill deal.
Also, why waste all that new fresh transmission fluid approx 6-7 litres, by droping the pan after this "flush" to put your own filters on??
Just watch them do it and save some money.
Don't use just "standard RTV on the diff's. Make sure it's a high temp one, as the difs can and do run very hot especially when towing. Also, many people leave the RTV overnight to cure before re-filling. I use a quick set high temp variety over here in England of which I'm sure you will have a similar type in the States?
As for the coolant flush, there are some drains on the Hemi block, but I don't have any pics to post up.
Maybe someone on here can help???
There are some DIY's with pics about some flushes on this site. Do a search on the board and you will find them.

Thanks for the info. I did use the high temp RTV last time I did the Diff. Seemed to work fine. I did search quite a bit and couldn't find anything on DIY or any info or pics on how to flush coolant. Some say use the prestone flush kit and some say to remove the plugs on teh block and drain radiator? Not sure what the best is. I am defenitly going to use that Zerex G-05 It looks like good stuff. It says its 100,000+ Mile coolant. Why change every 30,000 then? Just curious?
Oh yeah As for the tranny flush/pan drop. I figured that was the only way to get all the fluid changed out AND the filters too, cuz if you do just a pan drop you lony change like 1/2 of the fluid......

the way I understand it the flush runs backwards through the system and filters, so everything in your filter gets run back through tranny might be better to do pan drop first new filters then the flush to change whats in tq
