Default How do you Do your own tranny flush?

I have searched but can't find a good explaination.....couple of questions:

1. what is the order of flow? I know the fluid gets pumped from the pan out, but does it go through the torque converter then through the cooler back to the pan or other way around?

2. Which line coming off the cooler do you disconnect when doing the flush? Upper or lower when standing in front of truck?

This is how I figured how to do it:

1. Drop tranny pan and change filters and clean pan
2. Re-install pan with new gasket/rtv
3. Fill pan back up with new fluid to proper level
4. Disconnet the line from the cooler that returns back to the tranny and dirrect into a drain pan
4. Start Vehicle
5. Add 1 quart to pan as its running/draining
5. Stop truck when the return line stops draining
6. Reconnect return line
7. Add fluid to proper level
8 Start truck/add fluid til proper level is reached

Would this process work? In theory when you drop pan all the fluid is changed in there, then when you start it up it should use that new fluid to push out all the old through the torque converter and cooler right? Input would be great!

1-4 is correct, but I would overfill by an additional 2 qts.

Start the truck and wait for the fluid to sputter and spit. Shut truck off. Pour 5qts in start your truck. No need to hook the return line up for the re-fill, leave it off the entire time. Wait for sputter and repeat 1 more time. Then add 4qts and get the truck up to operating temp and fill to desired level. That's it. I'd pick up 2 cases and bring back what you don't use. Your gonna use 17/18qts.

boy 17-18 quarts at $6 a quart.....I might look into having a shop flush it for me. I am pretty sure I should be able to get it flushed for around $100 or so. Its going to cost me $108 in just fluid!

$6qt? WTF are you buying, Mopar?
Go get yourself some Valvoline Durablend ATF+4 for $2.79 per qt. They are both Synthetic

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...smission+Fluid

I called all around and Autozone was the cheapest

Durablend is not on the list and if its a blend that means its mixed with non-synthetic fluid as well........no thanks

LOL. I did all RP in mine and thats $10 a quart. And yes I did 17 quarts. If you get a 3/8'' hose you can push it in the tranny line and let it flow into a 5gal bucket like I did.
