Default 2002 ram 1500 starting problem

got in the other day and the starter stayed turning when starting.making funny noise sounded like the starter kept spinning ,it stopped and I went on my way shut off as useual .went out this morning and tried to start .stuck key in and the starter would not shut off even after key was shut off . smoked the starter almost caught truck on fire , had friend come over and disconnect battery , I went out bought new starter and my neighbor put it in simple job , went to put battery cables on and starter wants to start without key, kept spinning again, he replaced the starter right has only 2 wires on it the positive cable and the small plug in cable which is the solenoid cannot do this wrong . can anyone help me out here on this , no short in wire from starter to batt he went thru them ,traced the small wire and also no short from as far as he could see he even disconnected the ignition harness under the dash to ck ignition switch to see if this was the cause , still wanted to start when put cables back on ,is there another solenoid on there trucks , am I missing something here , never had problem like this . should have been easy fix ,it is the 1500 crew cab loaded .I know they used to have another solenoid on on my older chrysler .could have I bought a bad new starter ? any input , thanks

Looking at a electrical diagram for my 03, there is an"Integrated Power Module" that controls the starter motor. This replaces what use to be a starter solenoid. My guess is you have a bad IPM.
Hope this helps.

maybe the ignition itself could be to blame if that doesn't solve your problem.

Sorry, it doesn't give the location. But it is connected to the starter with a BR (brown) wire.
Hope that helps.
