Question 3rd brake light replacement

i almost feel stupid for posting this it seems so simple, but couldnt find it in the FAQs:

im replacing my 3rd brake light for a smoked LED version (which came with no instructions) and i cant seem to get the damn stock one off. i removed the two screws on the outside of the light, but it only budges slightly after that. i was expecting to to almost fall off. to those of you who have replaced yours, is there something i'm missing? maybe a screw or two on the backside underneath the headliner? figured i'd ask before i brake something lol. i really gotta get myself a Haynes manual here soon...

Mine was a bit reluctant. The gasket had a pretty good grip. Seems like the mount on the lamp is a teeny bit wider than the hole. A plastic chisel or scraper may help.

I think it's just stuck to the foam seal??? i remember someone saying the dealer RTV'd his back up because of a leak. This leads me to believe there are the two screws and the foam seal or RTV and that's it. Does this sound like it could be it or does the housing not budge at all?

yea I actually had the same problem. Two screws and then it still wouldn't come out. Black RTV was holding it on and I ripped some of the foam getting it off

I changed mine. just give it a good pull. maybe put a screw driver behind it to give it a good push. dont scratch the the paint.

Yep, mine too at first was a bit hard to pull off at first. But make sure you get it sealed back good or else it will leak when it rains.

I would use a black RTV sealant. Put a small steady bead on. Don't wipe it, just put it right on and don't crank the screws tight. Just snug.
