i got a 2wd 07 ram, and im picking out my tires and wheels tonight (yay!). i'm getting a set of wheels with 4.5" backspacing and 35" tires. dunno if i should get the 12.5s like everyone else or if i can go wider without rubbing. ill be getting a 6"-8" lift before these go on. but id like to get as wide as possible. maybe 13.5s? 15s? i want a beefy-*** tire to match the tall 35" height! but there's also the weight issue with my 2wd IFS setup...

anyone running wider than 12.5s with a 2wd? need some input here asap cuz its decision time thanks guys

Well, to tell you how wide of a tire you can go to, one would need to know the width of the wheels...

Im running a 325 tire but IDK what that equates to inches. What lift did you decide on?

the width of the wheels can be as large as 12" or as small as 9". I figured the width of the tire was more important when it comes to rubbing. I guess what i'm asking is with the backspacing at 4.5" how far can my 35s stick out before they rub excessively? i dont mind a little fender trimming, just not custom body work. i would think with 8" of lift i could go pretty wide, but i dont know. just curious if there's anyone else around that has thicker than 12.5s

been talking with a local shop and getting a really good deal so i think i'm gonna go with a 7" CST lift. those lifts are suppose to be pretty intense, so if thats what i go with then i'm just gonna let him do it rather than spend all weekend trying to install it myself

325 is 12.8" wide there Weed.
The wider the rim, the further out of your fender it will stick out! I wouldn't go any wider than 13" for a tire that will see a bunch of pavement. the reason is because you'll be dragged all over the road in uneven pavement. Wider tires up front will do just that. they catch grooves and such. Also, you put more stress on all the components everytime you turn the wheel. When i went from a 245 tire on my Mustang to a 275, I noticed a big difference.
I would get a 9" or 10" wide rim and a 12.5 or 13" tire. The narrower the wheel, the more buldge you get on the sidewall of your tires and the further in they will be tucked. the wider wheel you go, the further out of the fender it will stick(granted were talking about the same 4.5" backspacing) and the less sidewall flex you will get.
If i wer buying tires for my truck and I was installing a 7/8" lift. i would get a 10" wide wheel with 345/60/20(13.5"x36"x20) or a 9" wide wheel and 325/60/20 (12.8" x 35.3"x20)http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-NEW...lenotsupported

The wider the rim, the wider the tire will look, but more chances of rash on the wheels is likely whether it's from rock/curbs...etc.
