Question Trans Service Shops

Alright guys I am getting a little impatient now. I want to get my tq converter installed soon. I was going to send it back to the manufacturer to rebuild it and the quoted me $85 parts and labor which is great for the price, however, its going to cost about $40 shipping to get it to them and another $40 shipping to get it back and it'll be a solid 3 week waiting period til they can get to it. So if I went through them it'll run around $165 (+/-) and would end up being towards the end of july before I would get it back.

All I am looking for is a company that can do a quality job on it, can keep the rebuild costs low and can get it in and out fairly quickly. Do you guys know of any GOOD nationwide trans shop that can do the clean up and rebuild if necessary on performance tq converters?

Honestly, I would buy a new one and sell yours. That way your not left w/out a vehicle for 3weeks. A new one costs what? $400? You could easily sell yours for half that. That would mean you would only lose another $35 more than sending it back vs buying new.

Maybe you can sell it to someone on here. Ship it directly to the Manufacturer and have the manufacturer ship it directly to your buyer??? This way, you save 3 weeks for $35 and your buyer saves $200???? Just a thought. Then all you have to relky upon a normal shop installing what they think is a normal TQ converter. No specialty shop for specialty prices.

I think this sounds like a winning idea. Dog's idea would help eliminate the waiting you would have to do and would get you a brand new TC.

Well the converter is just sitting in my garage, so its not like it grounded my truck til its put in as Im still running the stock converter. I just want to get it in and if that means paying a little more to get it done locally then so be it. I only have a $500 budget for the converter for the rebuild and install so as long as a reputable shop can do it around here for no more than $250 it'll be okay. But that last shop I called said that they would rebuild it for about $900, the converter new cost $450 so I dont think they really got what I was trying to ask them.

That is a sign of a shop that you want to avoid .

Because that includes everything probably. labor and all.
Most places get 4hrs labor for a 2wd trans removal/install A 4wd adds like 2.5hrs to that mix. That means they are charging 6.5hours to remove and install your trans. Which is what you would do for a tq swap. Drp the tranny and put it right back in. $75per/hr x 6.5= $487.50 just for labor.
There's no way you are gonna get it rebuilt for $165 and have it installed for $335. not gonna happen.
Teach, i think you forgot about all that????

I think he was talking about just the rebuild for $900. Could be reading it wrong but that is what I thought he was talking about, not a rebuild and install.

Not worried about the install at all, that I know for a fact that I can get done for $250-$300. It is just the converter that needs the work done to it and it is already out of the truck sitting in a box in my garage. I thought the guy in the shop understood that he was ONLY cleaning up the converter and then giving it back but I think he got confused somewhere. Im going to check a few more places and make a few more calls tomorrow. I just dont want to have to take it to an AAMCO or something

If I have followed this thread correctly, you bought this converter from your mechanic. If that is true, ask him if it needs to be rebuilt or not. If he says its good to go. Just have it flushed and install it. I seriously doubt if you send it back to the manufacture that they will rebuild that specific converter. They'll grab another off the shelf and send it back to you. If your mechanic thinks it needs a rebuild then buy a new on and sell the used one. This mod has some serious performance protential. I'm looking forward hearing how it works. Good luck..

See thats all I want, I want to get it flushed out and cleaned. I know it works fine but I still want to be sure that Im not going to be driving with it for a few hundred miles and have something fail. That why I want it looked at and cleaned up
