You can modify your own valve body if you can find a diagram on which holes need to go bigger and to what size they need to be!

I agree, but I can only assume the VB would be better for some reason being it is costing more but IDK for sure. Sometimes it isnt always like that. But I do also remember the cost of them and looking for shiftkits afterwards. But I cant help but think I found them somewhere for around 50 bux at one time.

genrally a shift kit is done by itself with no other mods. A modified valve body is used in conjunction with a Perf. TQ converter. Usually that's how it goes so the modified VB can keep the higher pressures feeding the tq'verter

If and when I do install it I will do a write up on the process. Just depends on if I have any cash when I get back in a couple weeks.
