OK so I've been browsing all the old exhaust threads on here and I've been thinking..... to the best of my understanding I have front to back,a resonator,muffler,then another resonator. I hear everyone complaining about the drone when removing resonators,so I was thinking what if I just put a louder muffler in place and left both stock resonators where they are? Would it sound better without the drone,or will it be too quiet? Or is this a dumb idea and I should just leave the front resonator and replace everything else from there back?

 

The front resonator is your catalytic converter. There are a few who have replaced their muffler and left the rear resonator in place, however the drone complaint is mainly based on the choice in muffler. A chambered muffler is going to drone (Flowmaster) while others will not. And to be honest, "too quiet" is a relative term. I think it would be too quiet, but I'm also running one of the loudest mufflers around.

 

I prefer my truck to remain somewhat quiet. I wouldnt go for a flowmaster or any other chambered muffler b/c as stated above they WILL drobe. Brand doesnt matter. Get some DYNOMAX Super turbos.

I could be wrong but that doesn't look like a cat in the front, I was told 06 hemis have 2 resonators, and it seems alot of people say they leave the "front" resonator on and then put on a muffler,which one is the front resonator? I'm not too worried about it being too loud, my old chevy was running headers to a high flow cat and no muffler-split duals and it sounded sweet to me. I am just hesitant because of the MDS to go too loud in case the dreaded "drone" appears. Most say there is little to no drone when leaving the "front" resonator in place. So I want to leave the front one in place and put on a loud muffler,I don't want a flowmaster though. I just need to know which one the front resonator is and then I can go from there.

Ya I'm either going Magna Flow or At3030 but can anyone tell me which one is my muffler,I think its the one in the middle but I'm not sure.

 

Your muffler is the biggest thing in the exhaust system, hard to miss. And I could be wrong about it being the cat, but I am pretty sure that's the setup on the hemis.

 

Ya the biggest one is in the middle, but its shape and diameter are the same as the one in the front only the front one is shorter,then at the back is something that actually looks like a muffler but I am lead to believe is a second resonator.

 

I hope you're taking your truck to a shop to have the work done then.

Yes you have a fore and an aft resonator on your '06. Get the magnaflow and if you want it quiet in the cab, keep the resonator that is before the muffler...
