Default Cruise Control is in Control

Cruise control (CC) on my '08 5.7 MDS (Auto Trans) works great - most of the time. But, when engaged on fairly flat highway and begin a downgrade it will drop a gear to maintain speed. Okay - fine. BUT, CC then can't be disengaged by brake pedal, or either CC button (Cancel or On/Off). I have only been able to disengage by turning CC off (On/Off button) and then accelerating a bit (~5mph?) above set speed then releasing gas pedal. THEN its off and I'm coasting downhill.

Dealer says no codes so, by definition, no problem (AKA customer is crazy). They were even so good as to road test it (in the valley where they're located - see my other post asking for suggestions on good dealer/mechanic).

I have not tried manually shifting gears, the tow/haul button, or the ignition key .

I have experienced this numerous times . I have not had the chance to take it to a dealer in the hills. In the meantime - any clues?

Thanks.

OK - I messed this up a bit. Thanks mxzrevman.

When I wrote:
"Okay - fine. BUT, CC then can't be disengaged by brake pedal, or either CC button (Cancel or On/Off)".

What I MEANT to write was:
"Okay - fine. BUT, when I disengage the CC the trans still holds the lower gear - even after pushing the brake pedal, or either CC button (Cancel or On/Off) numerous times".

Thanks all.
